Progress towards level

:: Spell & Skill Progress ::

>> How to know what spells or skills a particular NPC sells:

To find out what spells or skills an NPC sells say the name of the level of interest. The NPC will then list all the spells that he or she sells for that level.

You say, "level six"
Priestess Qerti'nya says, "Through rigorous discipline, I can teach you anti-magic aura at that level."

>> How to buy spells or skills:

If you are just starting out, and are attempting to buy a level 1 spell you can type buy on the command line. The NPC will offer you a menu of any items, spells or skills they currently have for sale. If they don't offer you the spell you wanted ask the NPC what first level spells they sell.

You say, "level one"
Priestess Tenuv'vyal says, "From Faren's fire, you can learn light, zap, fog and mystic touch at that level."

>> How to know if you qualify to buy a spell or skill:

To see if you qualify to purchase a particular spell, say the spell's name and the vendor will let you know if you are ready to be taught.

You say, "light"
Priestess Tenuv'vyal says, "You are currently qualified to learn light. Congratulations."

As you progress you can determine if you are ready to advance to the next level say the name of the spell you are trying to buy.

You say, "anti-magic aura"
Priestess Qerti'nya says, "Your mind is focused properly, and with significantly further progress in the previous Kraanan levels you can learn anti-magic aura."

The verbiage the NPC uses when they respond tells you how many more points you need in your current level to advance:

Progress Verbiage % Range
Drastically Further Progress 71 + %
Significantly Further Progress 61 - 70%
Much Further Progress 46 - 60%
Some Further Progress 31 - 45%
Further Progress 16 - 30%
Little Further Progress 01 - 15%

To determine what percent improvement you need to qualify add the total of the three highest spells in the level you are currently practicing together, and then use the ranges in the above. For the example above using Anti-Magic Aura, if you are working to get level six Kranaan and you get the message shown above, and your top three spell percents in level five Kranaan are as follows:

Armor of Gort = 70%, Killing Fields = 13%, Resist Magic = 57% = 140% Total

Then you will need between 61 and 70 additional improvements to attain level six. So, you will earn the next level when your top 3 spell %s add up to 205 or 210(*)

(*) You level when your top 3 spells add up to a number which is divisible by 5 within the range listed in the progress chart shown above. I guess the Deities of Meridian do not like messy numbers.

>> Why can't I buy my level one Qor or Shal'ille spell? Why is the Priestess telling me about a path? Are we going for a walk?

The Goddess Shal'ille and the God Qor, though opposites in many ways, demand that their followers demonstrate their religious fervor by maintaining their karma proportional to the level of their studies. Here is what happens when a player with negative karma tries to ask the Shal'ille Priestess about one of her spells:

You say, "level one"
Priestess Xiana says, "The benevolence of Shal'ille offers minor heal, detect evil, holy symbol, breath of life and seance at that level."
You say, "minor heal"
Priestess Xiana says, "Your karma is not far enough along the TRUE path for you to learn minor heal."

For Shal'ille you will need to maintain your karma at 10 times the spell level you are attempting to learn. For Qor you will need negative 10 times the spell level.

level Shal’ille Qor
1 10 -10
2 20 -20
3 30 -30
4 40 -40
5 50 -50
6 60 -60

>> Why won't this NPC sell me my second level spell, and what is a Disciple?

So, you managed to purchase your first level spells, and now you want to buy your second level spells, but the NPC won't sell them to you and is telling you that he or she won't acquiesce unless you become their Disciple. Well, it is time to get a little religion.

To be made a Disciple you must complete a quest issued by the Priest or Priestess whose Disciple you wish to become. Here is an example of how the conversation should go:

You say, "disciple"
Priestess Xiana tells you, "You wish to learn more of the gentle, healing ways of our good Lady. You must brave the temple of Priestess Zuxana, and proclaim your willingness to forgive their violence and brutality. Heal them if you can. Say, "The ways of violence and destruction have hardened our people. It is time to move towards gentleness and peace. I will begin this process by granting forgiveness for your deeds. Please accept my blessing." Then, return and tell me that you have done as I asked."

In the above case you would have to go to Priestess Zuxana in the Qor Temple and say exactly what the priestess has asked you to say. The NPCs are all very fussy about spelling, case of individual characters and punctuation. So the best way to achieve this is to simply cut and paste the text from your text window, to ensure that you copy it exactly. When you return to the NPC that sent you say Disciple again, and the NPC should then tell you that they will train you when the time comes.

You say, "disciple"
Priestess Xiana tells you, "Blessed be this day. Today there is the birth of another soul filling with the light of Shal'ille. Seek me when you are ready to learn more of the Blessed Mother's knowledge and spells. You are worthy."

If you catch the NPC on a bad day, or if someone else has just completed a Disciple quest, you may have to wait and try again later (until the quest resets).

You say, "disciple"
Priestess Qerti'nya says, "All of those positions are filled at present."

You should not take this personally, Priests and Priestesses at times do things simply because they can.

O;-)
